Sending Positive Thoughts

Note to self:

Next time you see someone suffering or in need, and you start to say, "I'll be praying for you," stop yourself.  Instead, ask "What do you need?"  And then, if there is any possible way you can help meet that need, do so.  Do it now.  And then pray for them anyway.  Because prayer, when coupled with a desire to roll up the sleeves and go to work, is a very powerful thing.

Next time you see a Facebook post about someone who is having a bad day, and you are tempted to respond by "Sending positive thoughts," or "positive energy," stop yourself.   How about taking the time to actually share a positive thought instead, to say or do something that might give the sufferer some energy?  We can all use more good news in our lives, even if it is something simple like, "Courage is powerful."  "You aren't alone."  "It won't always be this hard."  "What can I do?"

I was thinking about this the other day.  I wrote it a few years ago, and it's fairly long and rambling, but it might be worth having a look at.  If you do have a look, persevere through all the rambling so you don't miss the point:  Always, since the beginning of history, God has used people to accomplish his purposes in the world.  Ordinary people, not all that different from me.  I need to remember this.

When I pray for someone, it very well could be that the answer to that prayer, the tool God plans to use to accomplish something amazing...is me.  No pressure.  It is one of life's great blessings, and greatest responsibilities.

Now, how's that for a positive thought?
